Kinescope of "You bet your life" (1949)




"Ladies and Gentlemen the secret word tonight is 'Name', N. A. M. E."
This Kinescope, complete and uncut, was made on December 5, 1949, while Groucho was recording his radio show "You bet your life".
After being edited down to 30 minutes, the program aired on December 28, 1949. It was also the last show sponsored by Elgin-American. DeSoto took over the following week.

Subject: It was a RADIO show
This wasn't on television yet, just radio. Why should Groucho get all dressed up when only the audience in the studio would see him? Why should they bother with a duck?

Subject: Almost no visuals added...
...not even a duck when the secret word is said. I almost missed it, except for that orchestra stinger. And Groucho, would it have killed you to wear a nice suit and a bow tie?
